Cheikh Ibrahima Niass dit Baye et la Fayda tidjaniyya

Résumé
Cette étude tentera de cerner la vie de Baye Niass, une figure de l’Islam confrérique du Sénégal,
et son rapport avec la Fayda. Enraciné aux valeurs cardinales de cette religion, il a participé,
par l’action et la parole aux luttes de son époque pour l’émancipation des musulmans dans le
monde. Durant sa vie, il avait embrassé d’autres voies comme la Tidjaniyya, proclamée par
Cheikh Ahmed Tidjane et la Fayda dont il est l’initiateur ; doctrines qui trouvent leurs sources
dans le Coran et la tradition prophétique. La Fayda, voie soufie prédite par Cheikh Ahmed
Tidjane et proclamée par Baye à ses contemporains, est perçue comme un moment de
massification et de renouveau de la Tidjaniyya mais aussi un lieu d’éducation spirituelle. Le
marabout a reçu un savoir gnostique qu’il veut partager, par la tarbya avec toute personne
désirant mener une vie soufie, inspirée d’un mysticisme éclairé.La paternité de cette voie a été
revendiquée par des dignitaires de la confrérie tidjane mais la légitimité de Baye fut attestée
non seulement par des sommités de cette voie mais aussi par les allégeances nombreuses que
des disciples venus d’horizons divers lui prête ; fruit de la propagation de sa doctrine.

Abstract
This study will attempt to identify the life of Baye Niass, a figure of brotherhood Islam in
Senegal, and his relationship with La Fayda. Rooted in the cardinal values of this religion, he
participated, through action and speech, in the struggles of his time for the emancipation of
Muslims throughout the world. During his existence, he had embraced other paths such as the
Tidjaniyya, proclaimed by Cheikh Ahmed Tidjane and the Fayda of which he is the initiator;
doctrines which find their sources in the Koran and the prophetic tradition. The Fayda, the Sufi
path predicted by Cheikh Ahmed Tidjane and proclaimed by Baye to his contemporaries, is
perceived as a moment of massification and renewal of the Tidjaniyya but also a place of
spiritual education. The marabout received a Gnostic knowledge that he wants to share with
anyone wishing to lead a Sufi life, inspired by an enlightened mysticism. not only by luminaries
of this path but also by the numerous allegiances attributed to it; fruit of the propagation of his
doctrine.
